We used H4831/R22 for 180 for years in the 300WM. I recently worked up some loads with the 200PT in my Mesa 300WM with R23 and H4831sc. The R23 was more accurate ( .43) but H4831sc (.90) shot to my pre set zero . R17/150 TTSX main load. I have the benefit of just slipping a 200 in the chamber if desired.

It's one of my favorite .300 WM powders. Don't overlook the old stand-by IMR 4350 behind your 180 grain pills. I've found the exact opposite to be true in my gun. H4831SC was the slowest powder with 180 g Accubonds. RL22 was a much faster and equally accurate powder in my 300 Win Mag. RL22>H1000>H4831sc.

FÜCK PUTIN! H-4831 wil give a little mors velocity with 180 grain bullets and it is a good powder to be sure. I have switched to H-1000 in my 300 Win mag because it gives me a 5 FPS Extreme spread and for a long range load will give less vertical disspersion because of the lower extreme spread.

WKR. H1000 is a much better option for the 200g ELD-X. H4831sc was quite a bit slower with both the 180 NAB and 200 gr ELD-X. It may have been slightly more accurate with the 180g bullet but it was really slow in comparison. I think you'd be better off with a slower burning powder like H1000,RL26 or Retumbo.

Re: 300winmag Berger 185 H4831 recipe. If you call or e-mail Berger, they should provide you some data for the 185. However, I would safely use 190 grain data, if that's all I had. Frankly, I gotten better accuracy and more velocity out of H-1000 in the 300 win mag case, than with H4831. Case capacity (and hence max loads) w/190 grain bullet.

Dec 25, 2019. #6. H4831 will work fine, not optimal but plenty good. I know some hunters whose favorite load for their 300 WM is a load with H4831, esp with lighter bullets. In addition it is not esp. sens to temp variations. If you continue to be unable to locate any H1000, RL26 is another good alternative.
